FROM THE EDITOR IN CHIEF

Earlier today a number of post under the assumed name Greeneyes0305 were posted to our blog in response to earlier post relating to High Point High School, the principal being removed, and the censure of School Board Member Edward Burroughs. It is not often that we respond to commentators on this blog and in fact almost all comments are approved without delay. Today became the first time we have drawn a line of distinction and the below email to the poster explains why.

Good Afternoon;

After meeting with the members of our Editorial Board this morning and afternoon, we have decided to selectively approve some and reject some of your recent comments to our Blog.
We created our blog to allow both readers and writers to openly share and discuss events and issues dealing with Prince George’s County by our own residents. As apart of the agreement we made with each other and the public in doing so, we decided it would be a free and open forum that is welcoming of all voices and opinions. That said some of your comments are threatening in both nature and tone. They represent a true violation of the environment we are hoping to create and foster.

After reviewing these comments it seems clear to us that you are either a person close to the principal in question or the person in general. We, collectively, feel that you should be offered an opportunity to defend yourself and your record. Should you feel the need to provide a full statement of the facts as you see them we would be very interested in running it, in full, un-edited.

Sincerely;

Editor in Chief

  1. I see you can post, as you say my tone is threatening in nature other people’s slanderous statements about the principal but when someone defends him it becomes “threatening”…..eliminate the other garbage and you wouldn’t have to worry about Greeneyes threatening tone…..SMH

    • Again, your comments threaten both legal and other action against members of the public for commenting on an issue of the public. You clearly have a wrong and misunderstood interpretation of the slander clause and the way you are seeking to apply it here.

      • I am clearly not misunderstanding anything…..If you truly read all the comments and vulgarity that was posted in some of the blogs the tones in their messages are clearly more harmful than mine….The messages that posted are very slanderous in nature…..its a shame that you can comment on a child’s blog post with curse words in it but try to call me out on the slander clause……a little hypocritical don’t you think….

      • This blog is to intentionally hurt Mr. Brooks. You call my statements threatening and want to moderate what I say….but it’s ok for other people to slam him, Dr. Hite, or Rosalind Johnson…whether I know him personally or not…this man has not been given a fair shake….all I have seen is condemnation. It’s very apparent that racism plays a major role in this and other incidents…and that’s sad…..this blog bores me….I need to blog with intelligent educated people who understands education, knows the meaning of SLANDER and DEFAMATION of Charater perse….maybe the EDITOR IN CHIEF needs to read Maryland law and education law……because everything poseted here is very harmful….but I’m sure you will twist it to fit your venue…..I’m done….this is beneath me…dealing with ignorance is not my forte……Good day….

      • This blog has and will continue to provide a place for Mr. Brooks, Dr. Hite, or Board Member Johnson to write their thoughts and/or opinion on this situation at any time. They all have declined comment to not only this blog but all of the papers of record as well. To bring race into this is to use a form of distraction that is unhelpful and unworthy of real debate as our entire Editorial Board is black. We, like Dr. Hite, Mr. Brooks, and Ms. Johnson all are of the same race. We all are college educated, and the board of 9 has three teachers and one retired administrator. That said we get about 3,000 hits a day on average now so if you decide not to use the blog we will respect that.

      • This blog is biased in nature….you moderate my comments but post vulgarity from others….It seems suspect that you are not willing to let me defend them but let the trash that others post about these individuals remain…which creates biases….jsut wondering if there is an hidden agenda…

  2. Greeneyes0305, I am very sorry that you are upset about the comments that were made however they were the honest feelings and opinion of everyone that was affected by the incident. Your comments made to me as well as others were very rude and unwarranted.

    The Editor extended an olive branch to you to voice your opinion. If you have something that you really wish to say take them up on their offer and let your voice be heard in a more productive manner.

    Once again I apologize if you were hurt by our statements.

    • I am not hurt just setting the facts straight….and yes some of the comments posted were not true and slanderous…..If you viewed them as rude and unwarranted then go back and reread your comment as well as others….there is nothing but stone throwing…. So many people are quick to criticize others before looking into their own wrong doings…If you want to truly advocate for what’s right….then stop tossing stones at Mr. Brooks, Dr. Hite, and Mrs. Johnson, and get these parents out here to RAISE THEIR CHILDREN TO BE PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS….The school and teachers aren’t there to raise them. They are there to foster learning.

  3. therealprincegeorges did nothing wrong. students voiced their opinions which are rather valuable seeing as they have a first person point of view. this website has done nothing but allow the community’s voice to be heard. you really do seem to be stuck on the slander situation but this whole situation really does make whoever you’re worried about look bad. if somebody was tighter on security, there wouldn’t have been this problem

    • Or maybe if the children had more self control this situation would have never happened. Think about it…
