Today in a tweet to their almost 2,000 followers the Prince George’s County Public Schools launched a new public campaign to prevent cuts they say can be devastating. Faced with a budget gap as high as $85 million Dr. Hite the superintendent has proposed eliminating upwards of 1,132 positions as a result of a lower than hoped for aid from the state in the budget proposed by Governor Martin O’Malley.
The tweet today is only the latest in a campaign that only seems to be just getting up and running to save the system budget that for the last two years relied on stimulus dollars in order to balance lacking tax revenues. The problem is now that the General Assembly has already convened and the budget has been proposed, it might be almost too late.
