Private Charter Yacht to Arrive at National Harbor

Entertainment Cruises Announces National Elite, Early Summer 2012

National Harbor, MD [May 22, 2012] Entertainment Cruises, parent company of Odyssey Cruises, Spirit Cruises and Elite Private Yachts, the nation’s largest dining cruise company, is thrilled to announce the newest addition to their Washington, DC Metro based fleet—the National Elite. This addition will expand the DC Metro fleet to a total of five ships; other ships include the Odyssey, Spirit of Washington, Spirit of Mount Vernon and private yacht Capital Elite.  Arriving in early summer of 2012, the National Elite is the first private charter yacht to be berthed at National Harbor Marina.

Previously known as the Romantica, a De-Naming, Re-Naming and Christening Ceremony is to take place mid-July 2012 to inaugurate the vessel as the National Elite in honor of her new home.

“While we currently offer cruises out of National Harbor, we are excited to establish a permanent presence in the area,” said Vice President and General Manger Sal Naso.  “The National Elite will offer National Harbor visitors and Prince George’s County residences alike an unparalleled way to experience the locale. “

US Coast Guard certified to carry up to 150 passengers, the National Elite is 124 feet in length with a beam of 24 feet.  She boasts three decks for large and small events alike and offers a “Private Bridal Changing Suite” for wedding charters.  Her interior is stylishly designed with two plasma televisions, large panoramic windows to take in unbeatable views and a lounge and bar area with luxurious leather lounge chairs.

The National Elite also has her own galley where Executive Chef Scott Reynolds will prepare all food freshly onboard.  Chef Reynolds has a culinary degree from Keiser University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Loyola University.  He comes to Entertainment Cruises from the Marriott Annapolis Waterfront Hotel Pusser’s Caribbean Grille where he led all food operations including banquet execution, room service and the full service restaurant.

The National Elite will sail along the Potomac River from National Harbor past Old Town, Alexandria and, by way of Reagan National Airport, on toward Haines Point.  The private charter yacht is available for group charters of anywhere between 70 and 150 guests.  She is customizable with a variety of menu choices for plated or food station lunches or dinners of up to 120 guests or cocktail receptions of up to 150 guests.

Julian Bond and NAACP National under fire from local chapters over gay marriage

Former NAACP Board Chairman Julian BondThe news last week that the NAACP National Board of Directors had voted to endorse gay marriage has been met by chapters all over the nation with a strong rebuke. Sources in the NAACP report intense and strong reaction from local and state leaders who felt they were caught off guard by the surprise endorsement during the quarterly meeting.

“There was zero consultation with the local members and many of them are just upset,” a member of the board said who spoke on the condition of confidentiality. “The person taking most of the blame is former chairman Julian Bond. He has pushed this for years and with the wind of the president at his back muscled it through,” the member went on to say.

Julian Bond served as the leader of the board from 1998 until he stepped aside in 2008. Bond made headlines when he refused to attend the funeral of the Corretta Scott King after her children decided to have the services at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Bishop Eddie Long (who has since been accused of sexual misconduct with young male members) was a very outspoken opponent of gay marriage.

Now that the National Board has voted to support same-sex marriage there is little members can do to register their dissent. Some discussion has taken place to introduce a resolution supporting “traditional” marriage at the organization’s national convention this summer, but seeing how much media such an effort would generate, that is not likely. It has however gotten a few leaders of local chapters to consider if it was time to revise the powers of the national board.

The NAACP which celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2009 has been battling for relevancy in modern years. It is governed by a 64 member board who are elected in various methods. One of the largest concerns by opponents of the resolution is how the decision was reached. Local and even many state leaders they they weren’t even informed the issue would be up for discussion. A former member of the board said that after serving on the body for almost a decade, he doubts that all of the board members were at the meeting and has heard that less than half who did attend, knew the issue would be discussed. “We regularly would have a bare majority of members present at these meetings. It is just not good government for a small group of people to make such a wide change in philosophy for a group this large without a dialogue,” the former member said. “They did it for the media, they did it for the headlines, they did it to be in the in crowd,” the former board member continued.

Here in Maryland which will have this issue in the spotlight this November, leaders from both Baltimore City and Prince George’s County have been relatively silent on the issue. Will the NAACP or President Barack Obama be able to deliver the black vote? We will see in November.

Prince George’s Churches, ground zero in gay marriage battle

The black church in Prince George’s County stands to wield wide influence in the outcome of the gay marriage referendum when it is decided by voters this fall, but the first step is getting to the ballot. Under Maryland law the sponsors of the effort to place this issue on the ballot have until June to get their signatures in and verified. Feeling the pressure churches all over the county are holding voter registration and petition drives. The latest is Fort Washington Baptist Church.

Fort Washington Baptist Church will host a voter registration and petition drive for the Referendum on Marriage. We hope that you can help us get the word out to local residents.

The O’Malley casino commission: PG gets none, MoCo well represented.

Governor Martin O’Malley on Face the Nation

On Monday Governor Martin O’Malley appointed his long discussed Working Group on Gaming. Despite what the governor puts out as a wide ranging portfolio, this group has one task, deciding if the state will allow an additional casino at National Harbor in Prince George’s County. However guess what we weren’t supposed to notice? None of the voting members of the group are from Prince George’s County.

Here are the official voting members of the group -

  • Governor’s Chief of Staff Matthew Gallagher
  • Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management T. Eloise Foster
  • Secretary of Appointments Jeanne Hitchcock
  • Senior Policy and Legislative Advisor Joseph Bryce
  • Senator Edward Kasemeyer
  • Senator Nathaniel McFadden
  • Senator Richard Madaleno
  • Delegate Sheila Hixson
  • Delegate Peter Hammen
  • Delegate Frank Turner

Now before we get all crazy and stuff the governor did also name alternates to the group and there are two members from Prince George’s County in that group, but both of them are pro-slots coming to the county. The members of that group are below.

Senator Douglas Peters, Senator George Edwards, Senator Robert Garagiola, Delegate Dereck Davis, Delegate Robert Costa, and Delegate Eric Luedtke.

So here is how things balance out.

Voting Members of the Working Group

Baltimore City – 2

Howard County – 2

Montgomery County – 2

Non-voting Members of the Working Group

Anne Arundel County – 1

Montgomery County – 2

Prince George’s County – 2

Total= Baltimore City 2, Howard County 2, Montgomery County 4, Prince George’s County 2

From looking at this you would think that this site was going to be in Montgomery County.

Today Lt. Governor Anthony Brown released a new website in preparation of what many believe will be a campaign for governor in 2014. The site includes a life story video and comes with  both a soon-to-be new wife and step-son. Brown and his ex-wife divorced in 2009.

Brown’s new website is anthonybrown.com. Will we see the LG use the space to provide distance between himself and outgoing incumbent Martin O’Malley? Take a stance on the tough issues like gambling?

Will black voters in Prince George’s abandon Obama over gay marriage?

Last week President Barack Obama made history when he became the first sitting president to endorse same-sex marriage. All day on Sunday the talking heads debated if that will hurt the first black president amongst his most loyal voting bloc, African-Americans. You tell us. Take our poll below and add your comments to the debate in the comment box below.

Will Democratic Unity Rally in PG really be united?

Democrats from all over Maryland will gather tonight for the Prince George’s County Unity Rally. Who will be missing? State Senator C. Anthony Muse. According to the release about tonight’s event the top speakers at the event will be Senator Ben Cardin, Senator Barbara Mikulski, Comptroller Peter Franchot, Rep. Steny Hoyer and Rep. Donna Edwards. County Executive Rushern Baker will also be a speaker. Now compare that to the big Unity Rally recently held in Fredrick County following the bitter  primary fight for the 6th Congressional District. Not only did Cardin, Van Hollen, and Delaney speak but so did State Senator Rob Gargiola who lost to Delaney.

Tonight’s rally starts at 7:00PM at the IBEW Local 26 Headquarters at IBEW Local 26, 4371 Parliament Place, Lanham, MD. Will it truly be unifying? Who knows. We are just happy to see both Ben and Barb figuring out on their GPS devices how to get back to the county they ignore most of the year.
